General Information on Appointments

Appointments with the doctors are timed for ten minutes. If you think your consultation may take longer than normal, please tell us when requesting an appointment.

As demand for appointments continues to rise, we have had to adapt to be able to meet this demand whereby as soon as any free appointments have gone for the day all patients will be placed on a telephone list for the duty doctor to phone. Urgent requests will be prioritised so if you feel you must be seen the same day, as an emergency, please make this clear to reception staff. Please give them brief details of the problem.

When speaking to you the doctor will – in consultation with you - deal with your request either by pre-booking you in with a GP or other health professional, or we have found many requests can be dealt with via the telephone.

If there are aspects of the new system which you find difficult or unhelpful please do let us have your suggestions as to how we can improve these; bearing in mind we clearly have to work within the resources we have. We do realise that any system cannot please all our patients all the time.

As we continue to receive some unacceptable comments from a very small number of patients from time to time our GPs have written a letter which explains the system in more detail and hopefully sets out that this is a safer and fairer system for all patients.
